The Solana token client's Oct. 16, 2026 update let developers pass address-bearing objects straight into its associated token account helpers. NFA.

Release Overview

SPL Token JS client 0.18.0 came out on October 16 2026. The package appears on npm under the name @solana-program/token. Solana Program maintains the repository that holds the code.

Helper Changes

Associated token account helpers now accept HasAddress inputs. This means address-bearing objects can move straight into the functions without extra conversion steps. A web3.js PublicKey serves as one example that works directly.

The mint-to helper and the transfer-to helper both received wider inputs for addresses and authorities. The same pattern applies to the mint creation helper. Its mint authority and freeze authority fields now take the same objects.

Program Default Adjustment

A custom token program address became the default setting inside the hand-written helpers. This update brought those helpers into line with the generated client that already followed the same default.

Practical Effect For Developers

Developers gain a simpler workflow when working with accounts that carry address data. They can supply the objects they already hold instead of extracting strings first. The change page describes the shift as a direct pass-through for any item that implements the HasAddress interface.

Mint and transfer operations become more flexible because the authority fields accept the same objects. Mint creation follows the same pattern so that both authority fields on a new mint can receive the objects without additional handling.

Alignment With Generated Client

The hand-written helpers now match the behavior of the generated client. This consistency reduces the chance that a developer will encounter different rules depending on which helper set they reach for first.

The release notes list the HasAddress support as the main addition. The change page expands on how each helper widened its accepted inputs and how the custom program default now applies across the board.

Summary Of The Work

All of the listed adjustments appeared together in the October 16 2026 release. They affect only the hand-written helpers that sit on top of the generated client. No other parts of the library received changes in this update.

Developers who rely on the associated token account helpers can now move objects directly into the functions. The mint-to, transfer-to, and mint creation paths all benefit from the same input widening. The custom program address default also applies without further configuration.

The package remains available through the same npm registry entry. The repository continues to serve as the source for the full set of release notes and change details.
